Burnout
Burnout, Chronic Stress, Brain Fog & Loss of Drive at Work

What burnout feels like
Burnout often shows up as exhaustion that sleep does not fix, difficulty concentrating, emotional numbness or cynicism about work, irritability, and dreading the working day. It is not a weakness. The World Health Organization describes burnout as an occupational phenomenon resulting from chronic workplace stress that has not been successfully managed.
Burnout or depression?
Burnout and depression share many symptoms, and burnout that continues may lead to depression. Your doctor will assess which applies to you, because the right treatment differs.
Brain fog and difficulty thinking clearly
Many people with burnout, depression or anxiety notice mental fog: slower thinking, poor concentration, forgetfulness and harder decisions. These changes are common and may ease as stress and mood improve. They can also have other medical causes, such as poor sleep or thyroid problems, which is why a medical review comes first.
